“The Witcher”: Will the Netflix series keep the balance between wit and gloom as good as “Game Of Thrones”?

After the almost utterly ominous trailer is to be feared that the eagerly awaited Netflix series “The Witcher” could miss the special humor of the template. Yennefer actress Anya Chalotra commented on this.

So far there has not been much to see about the ” The Witcher ” adaptation by Lauren Schmidt (“Marvel’s Daredevil”). The first trailer showed the monster hunter Geralt of Riva ( Henry Cavill ) after all in a variety of action – and granted by the way also other central characters such as Ciri ( Freya Allan ) and Yennefer ( Anya Chalotra ) scarce appearances. Apart from a laconic-dry Geralts spell, surrounds the trailer an atmosphere of dreariness and hopelessness.

There are also clips that were previously shown only behind closed doors. One of these details shows Yennefer on a beach holding a female baby carcass in her arms. She argues about the almost unbearable, painful life that a woman must lead – and expresses the conviction that infant death is preferable to this existence .

With this overweight of gloominess – which is basically the face of the hopeless world of “The Witcher” – but comes up the question: how is it about the humor ordered? A similarly pessimistic fantasy world design delivered last ” Game Of Thrones “. Only here was it possible to compensate for the misery of the scenario by giving the whimsical sayings of professional cynics like Tyrion Lannister enough space to unfold. And after all, Geralt is also known as notorious for his snappy sarcasm. The joke of the stories scores especially when this with his companions, dwarf Zoltan Chivay and – in the trailer especially painfully missing – the zotenveriebtenBard Dandelion aka Jaskier , on the move.

In an interview with , Yennefer actress Anya Chalotra gave the all-clear: Dandelion will not only appear in the series, but also play a huge role. And the unique dynamic between him, Geralt and Yennefer, who like to comment on dark moments in a casual way, is to be addressed by the series. The poet is played with the rogue on the nape of Joey Batey’s (“Knightfall”). A complete lack of humor is therefore not to be feared in “The Witcher”.
Of coarse Zoltan Chivay is yet to find any trace in the series adaptation, which could be due to the fact that he was only in 1996 in “Feuertaufe”, the fifth book in the Witcher series, was introduced. We would still miss him pretty much.

As you know, the Witcher movie is based not so much on the video games of CD Projekt Red , which made the series the ultimate celebrity, but primarily on the novel universe of the Witcher creator Andrzej Sapkowski . More specifically, one dedicates itself in the series adaptation probably among other things the first short story collection named “the last wish” (originally 1993, in German translation 1998 appeared). Since the first season will feature eight episodes and “The Last Wish” is made up of seven stories, it’s easy to imagine that the final episode will bring together loose narrative threads and act as a hinge for the second season. But that is still speculation.

An exact launch date for the Netflix series “The Witcher” officially not yet. Rumor has it that she will be released in December 2019. You’ll be able to watch The Witcher Series on FMovies.
